An Update!

We are engaged! As of 7/23/11. It happened in Portland, OR when I went to visit Nick while he was working there. Portland is amazing! We got to see the adorable city with wonderful food and shopping, the mountains and waterfalls that floor you with their beauty, and a short drive to the ocean. The weather was absolutely perfect. When we came home to KC we had a casual engagement party with family. Our official wedding date is 9/15/2012, the same day as my parents'. Our families are big so an extreemly small wedding is out of the question, though I long for the feel of a small wedding. I have my dress, vintage of course! There will be lots of vintage elements and will be mostly DIY. We will post pictures of the process on here.
We can feel the Holiday Season creeping up on us. We have a few Christmas treats in the shop and this month is proving to be awesome! We are very excited to go through our first Holiday Season with this shop. We have great items for gifts for all different tastes. Be sure to check it out as we continue to add more throughout the season. We are aiming to make a goal of 100 sales by the new year! Happy Shopping!!

Bonjour Monsieur

Gorgeous find my Mom! Amalfi shoes with a sailor stripe flair. It's times like these I wish I was a 6.5!

This has proven to be a very popular item. 8 hearts and 1 treasury.

There are many, many new items in the shop, 18 new listings in the last two days. I have been a busy busy bee. Please stop by and take a gander here.

Also I just created our most successful treasury by far yesterday. Find it here, 128 views, 41 clicks and 3 favorites! Nick and I agree that color coded treasuries fair well.

It has been slow going in the shop I am sad to say even though the past few days have been the hardest I have ever worked on it. I love the new process of listing though, because you can create drafts and list them at a later date. So convenient for when you aren't able to devote much time to the shop on certain days.
***Happy Sales***

Zoo, The Taste, The Shop!

Amazing adventures were had in the last week. I also wanted to share a delicious appetizer treat that Nick made for me!

Triscuit Treats
On each triscuit:
A dollop of greek yogurt
a small chunk of feta cheese
a small slice of green or red pepper
a small chunk of avocado
kosher salt
ground cumin sprinkled on top

after nick left I also made a variation on the recipe by adding dried dill - both ways are delish!
A amazing new book find in the shop here. From the late 1800s.

An Update on New Finds

So, Nick left yesterday to work for a few weeks back in Kansas. On his way back he and his parents went to an antique event/festival and he found some adorable things. A Jack and the Beanstalk book, very similar to the Red Riding Hood book we have in our shop, a little yellow lunch box and a cheese grater. We are starting to settle into our life together and making sure when he is here it doesn't feel like a visit. After doing distance for so long it can be hard, but we try to go out to eat less and cook more at home, do more low key things. I just got him into watching Dexter and we are nearing the end of the 1st season. We need a show that is new to both of us too. If anyone has any suggestions let us know! We have been watching Game of Thrones, but I think he is a little more into it than I am. We were able to list some more goodies while he was here:
We have a few egg beaters. They have fabulous character. We just love the way they look as decor in a kitchen.
I just love the cover of this book! We have an Alice in Wonderland book by Companion Library as well.
I am absolutely obsessed with this book. It has the most interesting recipes. I mean, who makes ham banana rolls with cheese sauce? Many of these recipes call for American Cheese, which I find hilarious since the only American cheese I know of is Kraft Singles. Ah the 50's! Gotta love em!
Nick found this amazing dentist utensil holder! It's one of my mom's favorites right now too.
Until Next Time!

Behind the Scenes with The 1950s House Wife

Hello, and welcome to our first blog post! We are a guy and gal duo living in Chicago. We opened our vintage etsy shop, The1950sHouseWife, in February of this year. To our excitement it has done really well and we are continuously working on adding new items frequently.
Here is a view of the pier by our beach. Chicago is an amazing place to be in the summer. Right now it's a little chilly, right after a heat wave, but there are always so many fun things to do. Our condo is right on the beach so we love to go lay out and cool off in the icy lake.
Here's a peek at the inside of our condo and our new couch we just purchased!
This is our cat, Mogwai. She is showing off her flexibility in this picture.
We thought it would be fun to share what our favorite items are in the shop right now. Nick chose the Baby Owl Toothpick Holder a cute little find that we got back in Kansas. As I am obsessed with all things owl, I have to agree that this is one of my faves too.
I picked this set up a few weeks ago. It is my absolute favorite find. They are A Mother's Encyclopedia with tips on child rearing. They are from the 1950s, when the stay at home mother was the norm. There are so many interesting details and tips. The covers are also gorgeous.

In future posts we hope to share with you all the things we love, new items, exciting recipes, fun places and restaurants that we love. For now take a gander at our shop and we hope to talk more soon!
